Admission Requirements

Student Admission Criteria (U.S. Resident)

This program follows the general requirements of entrance to graduate study at SUNY Cortland, along with its own specific criteria.

1. Although many programs at SUNY Cortland allow entry either in fall, spring or summer semesters, the M.S. in International Sport Management accepts incoming students for the fall semester only.

  • Entry Term Priority Application Due Date for Fall - March 1
  • Final Application Due Date for Fall - July 1

Admission to this program is expected to be very competitive and highly selective and will be based on College, department and program specific requirements. Although SUNY Cortland has a rolling admission policy, it is recommended that  application for admission to this program should be filed for full consideration, along with all supporting documents, to SUNY Cortland’s Graduate Studies Office no later than March 1 preceding the fall semester of a specific academic year. Applicants who file after this date are not guaranteed consideration for admission to the degree program.

Note: The Master of Science in International Sport Management is designed for incoming graduate students to begin in the fall semester of each academic year. However, the SUNY Cortland Graduate Studies Office, in conjunction with a recommendation from the Sport Management Department may consider a student entering the program in the spring semester if there are extenuating circumstances that warrant a spring entry.

2. Once the Graduate Studies Office receives all of an applicant’s required documents, the credentials of the applicant will be forwarded to the Sport Management Graduate Review Committee. Departmental decisions are then forwarded to the Director of Graduate Studies through the Chair of the Sport Management Department. The final notification regarding admission to the Master of Science in International Sport Management is transmitted to the applicant from the Director of Graduate Studies. After formal admission, the student is assigned a faculty program advisor who supports the applicant in planning a specific course of study.

3.
