Description
The Modern Languages Department offers opportunities for the study of foreign languages, foreign literatures and foreign cultures. Students develop multilingual communicative skills for a wide range of purposes. Liberal arts majors and minors in French, Spanish and Teaching English as a Second Language are available.
Students who incorporate professional education courses in their programs may qualify for initial certification in adolescence education (French, Spanish and French-Spanish) and Teaching English as a Second Language (grades K-12). In addition, adolescence education majors (French, Spanish and French-Spanish) may be eligible for a K-6 extension. Courses in American Sign Language, Chinese, German, and Italian are also offered.
The Modern Languages Department also offers academic support to all international students, undergraduate and graduate, in the areas of academic writing, academic grammar and vocabulary, and academic listening and speaking.
The department participates in interdisciplinary programs leading to majors in international studies and the minor in Latino and Latin American studies .
