SOC 350 - Civil Society(C)The course begins with an examination of the historical development of and the social and psychological underpinnings of civility. It then describes the ideas and the practices of civil society in liberal modern societies from the eighteenth century to the present. The course concludes by examining the character of civility and of civil society in the contemporary United States in light of recent changes in the market economy, the democratic state, publics, and the social realm of familial, communal and associational ties.Fulfills Liberal Arts Requirement: LASR(3 cr. hr.)
