PED 603 - Foundations of Physical Education

Orientation to the current issues and unique professional demands of teaching physical education in school settings. Corequisite: PED 655. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Compare and contrast characteristics (e.g. cultural, racial, gender, sexual orientation, religious, socio-economic, disability) of diverse learners in relation to their impact on teaching and learning.
  2. Analyze contemporary (e.g., school funding, governance, and school law) and historical issues affecting schools, teachers, and students in a diverse culture, supporting one's views with well-reasoned arguments. 
  3. Describe departmental, state, and national professional expectations for physical education teachers.
  4. Identify and describe the K-12 National and State Standards in Physical Education
