PED 655 - Instructional Strategies in Elementary Physical Education

Introduction in physical education teaching methodology for the student to study, practice, and acquire basic teaching skills applicable to K-5 physical education instruction. Corequisite: PED 603, PED 656, PED 625, PED 628. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Design physically and social-emotionally safe instruction that shows knowledge of individual and group motivation and behavior, is developmentally appropriate, and meets State and National benchmarks, standards and laws.
  2. Select, design and implement appropriate teaching strategies, instructional cues, prompts, demonstrations for developmentally appropriate learning environments to enhance learning in 3 domains for K- 5 students.
  3. Apply motor development, language acquisition, and literacy development theory of children in planning, implementation, and assessment.
  4. Exhibit professional behaviors that reflect a commitment and respect for the profession.
