FSA 690 - Internship: Teaching Students with Disabilities - Grades 1-6

One of two culminating experiences in the Teaching Students with Disabilities Masters Program (1-6). Faculty-supervised teaching experience in an elementary school setting where interns will be expected to apply the theoretical, pedagogical and practical knowledge gained during their course of study. This is a 150-hour experience over the course of a semester.
  Prerequisites: FSA 515, 530, 600, 610, 683; and LIT 525 or LIT 527 or LIT 535. Corequisite: FSA 691. S, U grades assigned. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Collaborate effectively with colleagues and school personnel to address Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives for students with disabilities in grades 1-6.
  2. Utilize a variety of teaching strategies to develop a positive teaching-learning environment that promotes safety, belonging, and high expectations for all learners.
  3. Use multiple formative and summative assessments to analyze teaching effectiveness and student learning.
  4. Develop and implement lesson plans based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to address individual student needs and engage all students.
