PED 622 - Research on Teaching Effectiveness in Physical Education

Course designed for teachers who want to be informed about teacher effectiveness, research findings and improve their own teaching practices. Participation in microteaching and reflective teaching featured. Prerequisites: PED 603, PED 655, PED 656, PED 665, and PED 657. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and summarize historical research on teacher effectiveness and outline the strengths and weaknesses of several research designs. 
  2. Analyze teaching effectiveness and learning by using the results of systematic observation techniques to test hypotheses and evaluate teaching practices.  
  3. Inquire and reflect on the research findings for the following topics: standards-based teaching, implementation of teaching models, ecology and teaching environment, implementation of CSPAP, social and emotional learning, cultural competence and social justice.  
  4. Define content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge and recognize the influence on teacher effectiveness. 
  5. Engage in teacher learning and professional development through collaboration and action research.
