PWR 217 - Reading and Writing Comics

Explore the history of comics and graphic novels, as well as introduce terms theorists and comic creators use for understanding, analyzing, and discussing different comics and graphic novels. Design comic strip sequences and multiple-page graphic pieces that cover different genres and purposes. Fulfills GE 8, GEAR; LASR; PRES, GECP. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate rhetorical awareness of genre, audience, purpose, and context.
  2. structure and focus writing based on feedback and visibility of their work in online environments, publishing, workshops, or other venues inside or outside of the classroom.
  3. apply terms, concepts, and comic theories to their own analysis, design, and creation of comics.
