PED 246 - Introductory Yoga

An introduction to basic concepts of yoga, wellness, and mindfulness so that they can be incorporated into physical education curriculum for PK-12 schools. (1 cr. hr.)
Frequency code A = offered every semester

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify body parts, planes and functions. 
  2. Demonstrate yoga breathing techniques and basic respiratory physiology as it relates to the autonomic nervous system.
  3. Describe yoga's application for improving health-related fitness (flexibility, strength) and explain the short-term effects of yoga on physical fitness and stress management.
  4. Use yoga to practice self-reflection, cooperation, and risk taking.
  5. Exhibit professional behavior that reflects a commitment and respect for the profession.
