ATH 333 - Cuba Study Abroad: History, Art and Culture

Study abroad program devoted to the art, culture and history of Cuba. Guided field excursions to contemporary Cuban communities with an emphasis on Spanish and French artistic influences since the 16th century. Particular focus on hand forming processes of art. Fulfills: GE 8, GEAR; LASR; PRES. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code C = offered at least once every two years

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Investigate historical, cultural and creative perspectives of Cuba, while exploring Spanish and French sites.
  2. Demonstrate hands-on experiences while engaged in collaborative traditional activities within local Cuban communities.
  3. Apply experiential learning, while developing an understanding of the Cuban civilization through archaeological practices.
  4. Analyze verbally and through critical written evaluation, traditional art practices and ways of life of Cuban society, and the vestiges of Spanish and French culture remaining in Cuba.
