COM 313 - Portrayals of Women in Popular Culture

Examine the historical and contemporary roles of women in popular culture; explore the representations of femininity and womanhood in mediums such as television, movies, music videos, pop art, print, social media and mass communication; apply contemporary critical theory to analyze themes of female representation in popular culture. Prerequisite: COM 100. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the historical and contemporary roles of women in popular culture.
  2. Critically analyze the portrayals of femininity and womanhood in the media.
