IST 161 - Introduction to the Model UN

Introduction to structure and process of United Nations, simulation of general assembly activities, including development of resolution, treaty and position papers; enhancement of discussion and debate skills and public presentation. May be repeated for a maximum of four credit hours. Also listed as POL 161. (1 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify major concepts, topics, and theoretical perspectives related to the study of the United Nations (UN).
  2. Demonstrate knowledge about the history, structure, and processes of the UN.
  3. Analyze the major issues on the UN agenda for that particular semester.
  4. Simulate the actions of a national government representative in the context of a UN deliberation.
