Comparative religious systems, institutions; functions, role of religion and church in society. Prerequisite: SOC 100 or 150 or ANT 102. Fulfills: LASR. Notes: Category A.(3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Compare different sociological perspectives on religion.
  2. Discuss empirical evidence for the continuing importance of religion as well as secularization in modern societies.
  3. Explore how religion reflects existing power arrangements and perpetuates those dynamics through time.
  4. Describe the major world religions, including their histories and current states.
