SOC 464 - Corrections Course takes a long range historical approach to correctional ideas and institutions in the United States and Europe. Focus is on the development of institutions and ideas for "correcting" dependent poverty, criminality, delinquency and mental illness. Course also examines the changing relationship between correctional institutions and other economic and social institutions. Prerequisite: SOC 100 or 150 or ANT 102. Also listed as CRM 464. Fulfills: LASR. Notes: Category D.(3 cr. hr.) Frequency code B = offered at least once per year
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe contemporary operations of correctional agencies.
- Analyze the ways in which the historical development of corrections shapes current correctional practices in the United States.
- Examine the relationship between correctional institutions and other social institutions.
