SOC 383 - Crime and Inequality Examines how systems of inequality intersect with structures and patterns of crime and crime control. Considers how criminal justice systems and practices produce, maintain and reproduce systems of inequality. Draws heavily on intersectionality as a theoretical school of thought and method of analysis. Prerequisite: ANT 102 or SOC 100 or SOC 150. Also listed as CRM 383. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.) Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the historical, political, and cultural contexts of crime.
- Examine the assumptions, values, and beliefs that inform practices and policies in the criminal justice system.
- Analyze racial, gender, and economic differences and injustices in crime and incarceration.
