Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe through a critical lens the historical development of consumerism and mass consumption.
- Describe the cultural and social structural forces that drive mass consumption.
- Explain the mechanisms and modes through which people are enticed and expected to consume.
- Analyze how consumerism leads to the greater entrenchment of social hierarchies including those of racism, classism, and sexism.
- Explicate the environmental destructiveness of global mass consumption.
