SHH 283 - Introduction to Hearing Science

An exploration of the physiological and psychological aspects of human hearing, including acoustics of sound, anatomy and physiology of the auditory mechanism, and psychoacoustics. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Define and discuss the basic principles of sound, its acoustic properties and the means by which characteristics may be altered during sound transmission.  
  2. Identify and describe the anatomical structures in the human auditory system. 
  3. Describe the scientific principles and physiological processes involved in the reception and perception of sound.
