PHY 106 - Elementary Electricity, Light and Sound

An algebra-based introduction to electricity, light and sound. The methods of science and applications to diverse fields are stressed. Prerequisite: PHY 105 or PHY 201. Lecture/Lab Hours: Three lectures and one two-hour laboratory. Fulfills: GE 2, GENS; LASR. (4 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Interpret and apply the core principles, theories, and laws of electromagnetic theory, circuits, optics, and waves.
  2. Design and implement experiments to test hypotheses related to electromagnetic theory, circuits, optics, and waves.
  3. Collect, evaluate, and interpret experimental data related to electromagnetic theory, circuits, optics, and waves.
  4. Manipulate and apply the basic mathematical theorems, strategies, concepts and applications commonly used in algebra-based physics.
