MUS 201 - Music Theory I

For music majors or students with prior musical experience. Written theory: scales through basic harmonizations; applied theory: ear-training through keyboard harmony. Prerequisite: Consent of department. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify chord structure and key changes in complex music by listening.
  2. Compose musical phrases in various meter and keys including key changes.
  3. Notate musical phrases in complex compositions.
