CIN 101 - History of the Cinema I: The Silent Era

Evolution of the motion picture from early beginnings to the 1930s. Film concepts, film appreciation. Study of representative films from the U.S. and abroad. Fulfills: GE 8, GEAR; LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of film as a form of artistic expression.
  2. Articulate how cinema functions to entertain, disseminate information, and persuade in the context of its time.
  3. Describe controversies, movements and schools of historical thought as pertained to history of cinema.
