BIO 524 - Physiological Ecology

Physiological responses and adaptation of organisms to environmental factors. Prerequisite: Four semesters of undergraduate biology or permission of instructor. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code S = offered in spring; C = offered at least once every two years

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the physiological mechanisms by which animals are adapted to varying abiotic environments at levels ranging from the cell to the individual.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of the processes of resource acquisition and allocation, energy balance, thermoregulation and gas exchange in the context of varying abiotic environments.
  3. Compare and contrast the strategies used by animals from different taxonomic groups to survive and reproduce under similar environmental stressors.
