ANT 493 - Anthropological Methods and Theory

Overview of anthropological research methods and theory. Course topics follow the major steps in design and execution of anthropological research from the definition of the problem and formulation of hypotheses to interpretation of results and preparation of final report. Prerequisite: Junior or senior status. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Critically examine anthropological methods and theory related to research design, field work, data collection, data analysis and data sharing.
  2. Design and execute anthropological research.
  3. Discuss ethical issues related to anthropological research.
