ANT 103 - Archaeological Principles in Cultural Context

Introduction to methods, techniques and theory of archaeology. Demonstrates archaeological reconstruction of prehistoric and historic cultures and how to collect and analyze their data scientifically, ethically and in cultural context. Fulfills: GE 12, GEST; LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the various methods employed in archaeological fieldwork.
  2. Perform laboratory-based analysis on discrete material culture assemblages using accepted analytical techniques.
  3. Evaluate assemblages of archaeological material culture to build data sets by applying standard rubrics for interpretation.
  4. Apply archaeological theory to archaeological datasets to interpret past cultural structures and behaviors.
