Anthropology: Concentration in Action Anthropology [ANT_ACT]

The Action Anthropology concentration is designed to prepare students for careers in a wide range of fields. Our anthropological education provides advantages and insights into culturally informed ways to address community problems. As opposed to approaching social problems from the outside with ready-made solutions, an action anthropology approach requires first-hand study and involvement in communities to work with people, so that together problems can be diagnosed, analyzed and addressed through a plan of action. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the foundational material in the sub-disciplines of Anthropology, including action anthropology, archaeology, biological anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and sociocultural anthropology.
- Describe the methodologies used to conduct anthropological fieldwork in at least one sub-discipline.
- Compare the major theoretical frameworks within anthropology using an historical perspective.
- Develop a research question and/or hypothesis relevant to anthropological research.
- Communicate anthropological knowledge clearly and effectively in writing.
- Create an action plan for addressing real-world problems
- Build collaborative partnerships with local community agencies.

Please note that students are required to complete 24 credit hours at the 300 level or higher for the major and should limit the number of 200-level electives taken.
Also, note that a single course cannot be used to satisfy multiple requirements toward the major and concentration. For example, if a student takes ANT 412 as an Action elective course for the concentration, it will not count as an Anthropology elective for the major.
