The degree in sport management is focused on the business and governance of sport as it applies to sport organizations in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. The B.S. in sport management is designed to allow for validation with the appropriate academic accrediting body in North America, the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA), a joint commission created by the North American Society for Sport Management and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the fundamental principles of the sport management field such as but not limited to strategic management, sport marketing, sport finance, sport media and sport law.
- Distinguish the key concepts and procedures related to ethical "good practice" and conduct to situations that are specific to sport.
- Compose a variety of oral and written business communications styles.
- Students will show an understanding for individual differences and appreciate the benefits of all dimensions of diversity including but not limited to ethnicity, gender, age, physical differences, sexual orientation, race, and religion.
- Illustrate their competence to utilize current technology to perform vital tasks within the sport business realm.
- Apply critical thinking skills to apply course content to practical scenarios and projects.
- Develop practical experience within the sport industry through fieldwork that demonstrates the fundamental sport management core courses.

Admission Requirements
- Acceptance to the major is highly competitive and is dependent on space availability and the candidate's academic record, behavioral and professional background. Admission to the major is limited and application does not guarantee admission.
- Students wishing to major in sport management must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 to be considered. Meeting this minimum standard does not guarantee admission into the program.
- Students wishing to become majors by internally transferring from another major must submit a portfolio that includes:
a) a change of major form
b) a copy of their academic record
c) a personal resume
d) a personal statement explaining their interest in the major relative to their future academic and professional career interests.
- All student portfolios will be reviewed by a committee comprised of sport management faculty prior to any final decision on acceptance is made.
- Students may be required to complete an additional interview with department faculty.
- Students will be notified in writing of their acceptance, their conditional acceptance or their rejection. Students who are not accepted may reapply in a future semester.
- A declaration of interest in the SPMG major does not guarantee acceptance for a student.
- Applications are reviewed in the fall (application deadline is Oct. 1) and in the spring (application deadline is March 1) prior to course registration for the following semester.
