This major in the Communication Disorders and Sciences Department prepares students for graduate study in speech-language pathology, audiology, education, teacher of the deaf, or special education.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Retain theoretical knowledge of normal processes related to the development of speech, language, hearing and communication and demonstrate in key assessments defined in specific course syllabi in the Speech and Hearing Science curriculum.
- Retain theoretical knowledge of disorders of speech, language, hearing and communication and demonstrate in key assessments defined in specific course syllabi in the Speech and Hearing Science curriculum.
- Learn, describe and demonstrate clinical assessment and intervention techniques and strategies utilizing evidence-based practice and demonstrate in key assessments defined in specific course syllabi in the Speech and Hearing Science curriculum.
- Develop and refine oral, written and professional communication skills and demonstrate in key assessments defined in specific course syllabi in the Speech and Hearing Science curriculum.
- Identify diversity in the global society and use this knowledge to guide their interactions with clients and their families and demonstrate in key assessments defined in specific course syllabi in the Speech and Hearing Science curriculum.
Program Standard Grade Point Average Requirement
The major GPA is calculated by all courses identified in the college catalog as required for the major. In addition, this program has an established program standard GPA which may be used to determine progress in the program.

C. Foreign Language Requirement
Students are expected to demonstrate successful completion of two semesters (through the 102 level) of a college-level foreign language or confirm proficiency equivalent to successful completion of the second semester (102) of a college-level foreign language sequence through a testing program approved by the Modern Languages Department.
Optional Concentration: Speech and Hearing Science in Schools (SCSH): 12 credit hours
This concentration provides students with coursework to support employment in an educational setting.
