This program in the Kinesiology Department provides a theoretical and practical knowledge base for students who are interested in careers in health/fitness settings. Students in this program have the opportunity to prepare for careers in fitness management, health promotion and other wellness-related programs.
This program can lead to certification as a health/fitness instructor, personal trainer, and/or certified strength and conditioning specialist through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The program is formally recognized by the NSCA.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate effective communication in both oral and written forms
- Integrate content knowledge within the fields of Kinesiology
- Perform the appropriate professional skill set required to be an expert personal trainer, corporate fitness, or strength and conditioning special
- Demonstrate professional development within Kinesiology

General Education: 33-36 credit hours
Math and Science Requirements: 22 credit hours
Kinesiology Theory Core: 21 credit hours
Activity Core: 3 credit hours
Select one course from the following:
Fitness Development Requirements: 20 credit hours
Practica: 15 credit hours
Free Electives: 6 credit hours
Total Credit Hours Required for Graduation: 120
