ECO 323 - Political Economy of Women

Political economic analysis of participation and status of women in the economy. Special emphasis is placed on analyzing labor force participation rates over time, historical trends in occupational sex segregation, wage differences based on sex, and women's struggle for economic equality. Additionally, international, racial, and ethnic differences in the economic status of women are covered. Not open to students with credit for ECO 325. Prerequisites: ECO 105 and 111. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Discuss the current economic problems facing women and men based on gender.
  2. Provide historical context for the evolution of equality between women and men.
  3. Describe the current inequalities between women and men.
  4. Interpret the current policies being implemented by governments and businesses to address inequalities between women and men.
