SOC 325 - Organized Crime

A sociological overview of organized crime, including conceptual approaches, theoretical explanations, analysis of activities and structures. Considers links between organized crime and government, challenges in control and countermeasures. Prerequisite: ANT 102 or SOC 150. Also listed as CRM 325. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the hierarchical structures of organized crime groups and their criminal activities.
  2. Analyze organized crime using various criminological theories.
  3. Explain organized crime groups' influence on governments in various countries.
