FRE 425 - French Cinema

History of French cinema from its beginnings through the present. Selected readings, study of film techniques and an analysis of a wide variety of films. Prerequisites: FRE 315 or FRE 316 or FRE 311. Fulfills: GE 8, GEAR; LASR; WI. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Analyze French films, differentiating among the various genres of films and placing them in their historical context.
  2. Describe the cinematic techniques used in film production and explain how these techniques are used to support the key concepts in a film, develop characters, and manipulate the audience.
  3. Compose a well-organized, thesis-based paper in which their observations will be used to support each point developed.
