SPA 411 - The Golden Age of Spanish Literature

Extensive readings in literature of the 16th and 17th centuries; Renaissance and Baroque poetry, prose or theatre according to subtitle. May be repeated as subtitle changes. Prerequisites: Two of the following courses: SPA 306, SPA 307, SPA 308. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Analyze the structures and themes of poetry, prose, and drama of 16th and 17th century Spain.
  2. Distinguish between religious, social, and political norms of Golden Age Spain and those of today.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of literary conventions and poetic devices commonly used in Spanish Golden Age literature.
  4. Express themselves in the target language with improved control of syntax and expanded vocabulary.
  5. Compose a detailed and coherent literary analysis.
