PSY 486 - Counseling Psychology

Survey of systems of counseling, psychotherapy; consideration of prevention theory and methods, clinical techniques, professional issues, research in therapeutic effectiveness. Prerequisites: PSY 101, six additional credit hours of psychology. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the major theories of counseling.
  2. Identify and describe the various counseling techniques utilized in each theory.
  3. Describe the significance of the therapeutic relationship in counseling.
  4. Describe the importance of individual differences in the counseling process.
