PED 189 - Aquatics

The course is designed to acquaint students with personal safety skills, commonly used swimming strokes, basic aquatic exercise techniques and beginning diving skills. (1 cr. hr.)
Frequency code A = offered every semester

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Perform the sidestroke, elementary backstroke, back crawl, front crawl, and breaststroke and be classified as an American Red Cross level three swimmer. 
  2. Complete an endurance swim of 300 yards (non-stop, choice of strokes). 
  3. Perform the proper progressions for teaching swimming and water safety to children. 
  4. Perform the proper progressions for headfirst entries.
