MAT 115 - Precalculus Polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions and applications. Prerequisite: Three units of Regents high school mathematics. Fulfills: GE 1, GEMA; LASR. Notes: Not open to students with credit for any calculus course.(3 cr. hr.) Frequency code A = offered every semester
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Sketch the graph of polynomial, rational, trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic functions and describe their properties (e.g., roots, even/odd, increasing/decreasing, intercepts, asymptotes).
2. Use tabular, graphical, and symbolic representations of functions to find and describe their inverses.
3. Use functions to model phenomena from the physical and social sciences.
4. Prove trigonometric identities and relationships.
5. Describe functions using the polar coordinate system.
6. Use the concept of inverse function to solve trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic equations.
