HLH 111 - International Health and Culture

The course provides a cross-cultural analysis of the current global health situation through comparison of factors that affects the well-being of people of the world, as well as actions that are being taken and can be taken to improve world health. A major focus of the course involves comparing and contrasting health problems and approaches to health improvement in various cultures and countries. Fulfills: GE 3, GESS and GE 6, GEWH; LASR. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Apply online research skills to study global health problems and interventions.
  2. Identify multiple perspectives in the study of disease, illness and healthcare.
  3. Identify cultural influences in global health promotion efforts of international agencies. 
  4. Investigate healthcare-related problems and programs of another country from a cross-cultural perspective.
  5. Compare the health-related beliefs and practices of other cultures to their own.
