ECO 305 - Political Economy of Globalization

Key controversies surrounding modern globalization debates: History of global capitalism; theories of modern imperialism; transnational corporations and the struggle for labor and human rights; the World Trade Organization; the International Monetary Fund and the nation state; U.S. foreign policy; and global conflict over strategic resources. Prerequisite: ECO 105. Fulfills: LASR; WI. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Summarize the history of international institutions from the Nineteenth Century to the present.
  2. Identify the changing forms of international trade agreements.
  3. Examine the gold standard and the historical evolution of monetary policy for countries in different regions of the world.
  4. Utilize empirical evidence to identify arguments for and against the globalization thesis.
  5. Discuss global supply chain developments after the Millennium.
