CAP 220 - Introduction to Computer Networks An introduction to computer networks. Topics may include networking standards and the OSI model, transmission basics, network protocols, hardware, topologies and access methods, implementation and management of networks, and networking operating systems. Prerequisite: CAP 100 or permission of the CAP coordinator. (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code B = offered at least once per year
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Evaluate communication protocols and network standards that support telecommunication systems and cloud-based enterprises.
- Differentiate between common network topologies.
- Illustrate key infrastructure components and explain requirements for distributed systems.
- Determine best practices for troubleshooting and managing networks including identifying the security, power, and environmental issues.
