CAP 100 - Introduction to Computer Applications

Computer applications for various academic disciplines. Topics include: application software, operating systems, computer networks, the Internet, databases, software development and computer hardware. Lecture and laboratory required. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Compare and contrast components of an information system including hardware, application software, operating systems, programming languages, databases, and networks.
  2. Describe responsibilities of computer professionals and explain the value of information systems.
  3. Demonstrate a foundational understanding of information security, the Internet, the World Wide Web, distributed computing, mobile systems, data management, and system development concepts.
  4. Apply basic computational problem-solving skills and demonstrate effective ways to manipulate numeric data, produce graphics, and present information.
  5. Display proficiency in productivity applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software.
