ANT 312 - Peoples of the Middle East

Ethnic mosaic of North Africa and Southwest Asia; Islam as a cultural tradition in ethnic group relations; integration of urban, peasant and nomadic subcultures of area. Prerequisite: ANT 102, 103, or 104  Fulfills: LASR; PRES, GECP. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the multivariate cultures and ethnic groups that people the Middle East.
  2. Explain the major religions practiced, in the past and in the present, in the Middle East.
  3. Summarize the structures of major cultural institutions found in the Middle East.
  4. Discuss the long-lasting effects of past colonialism and continuing conflict on the peoples and lands of the Middle East.
