LIT 535 - Writing Instruction and Assessment

Candidates will explore instruction, assessments and research trends regarding writing. Provide strategies to assist teaching students who struggle in literacy to improve their writing skills. A minimum of 15 hours of field experience working with students in grades 6-12 are required to complete this class. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Synthesize and utilize knowledge of theoretical and evidence-based foundations of writing instruction and assessment. 
  2. ​Apply knowledge of writing across grade levels, disciplines, texts, cultural contexts, and learners. 
  3. Design and evaluate evidence-based writing curricula with a focus on writing that targets students' strengths and instructional needs. 
  4. Demonstrate the ability to analyze writing assessment data and use these data for instructional plans.
