LIT 527 - Comprehension Instruction and Assessment Candidates will explore instruction, assessments and research trends regarding comprehension. Comprehension is the intentional, active and interactive process that helps readers to understand what they are reading. Provide candidates with the skills and strategies for assisting students who struggle in literacy. (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code B = offered at least once per year
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Synthesize and utilize knowledge of theoretical and evidence-based foundations of language acquisition and literacy.
- Apply knowledge of language acquisition, literacy, and comprehension across grade levels, disciplines, texts, cultural contexts and learners.
- Design and evaluate evidence-based literacy curricula with a focus on comprehension that targets students' strengths and instructional needs.
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze assessment data and use that data for instructional plans.
