SPE 520 - Teaching in Inclusive Classrooms Provides knowledge of special education to general education teacher candidates who are seeking to teach students with disabilities effectively in our classrooms and schools. A 15-hour field experience is required that is embedded in the associated methods course. Corequisite: AED 541 or AED 602 or AED 643 or EDU 688. (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code A = offered every semester
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Articulate key provisions of laws related to special education, inclusive education, and the civil rights of individuals with disabilities.
- Analyze resources and media from various perspectives on disability.
- Apply the principles of Universal Design for Learning, evidence-based strategies, and their knowledge of students with disabilities to the planning and implementation of instruction in secondary education classrooms.
