FSA 600 - Inclusive Education Pedagogy Introduction to differentiated instruction and universal design for learning. Course participants will practice different approaches to planning, developing questions, and modifying curriculum and instruction for elementary school students in inclusive classrooms. The course explores effective teaching methods for students with disabilities in the content areas of ELA, mathematics, science, and social studies. There will be an emphasis on the use of authentic, active and meaningful learning experiences as a way to help all learners make gains related to learning standards. Prerequisite: FSA 515. (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code B = offered at least once per year
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Articulate strategies that can be used to create safe, inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments to facilitate learning, emotional well- being, positive social interactions, and self-determination, for individuals with disabilities in grades 1-6.
- Identify evidence-based strategies to individualize and advance the learning of students with disabilities in grades 1-6.
- Develop a content-specific unit of inclusive lesson plans utilizing universal design for learning principles, for students in grades 1-6, including those with significant disabilities and advanced knowledge.
