SPM 625 - International Sport History and Governance Examination of the historical foundations and governance of sport throughout the world from the earliest of times to the contemporary period. Topics include the evolution of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the effects of sport development in the aftermath of 19th and 20th century colonialism and the impacts of technology and mass globalization. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify important periods of sport history.
- Describe the influence of culture, political, sociological, economic, and geographical contexts for sport to be played and managed.
- Discuss the concepts of nationalism and globalization, and how these have evolved in the sport sector over time.
- Identify and discuss the roles of major sport institutions.
- Discuss the core concepts associated with international sport governance: law, policy, stakeholders, power, corruption, safe sport, globalization, etc.
