REC 601 - Recreation Research and Evaluation I

This is the first course in the recreation research and evaluation sequence in the master's program. In-depth coverage of systematic inquiry, including the nature, scope, methodology, analysis and presentation of results in research and evaluation in recreation and leisure studies, with particular focus on the recreation research literature. Students will learn and apply the research process, both through experiential learning and preparation of a research proposal. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Critically review the research literature in recreation, parks and leisure studies.
  2. Plan a research project utilizing appropriate designs and methodologies.
  3. Use research methods such as observation, interviews and surveys.
  4. Complete a human subjects proposal as evidence of understanding the ethics and issues involved when working with human participants in research.
