ESL 405 - ESL Teaching Via Videoconference

ESL teaching practice through videoconferencing; reviews and expands on concepts and theories addressed in ESL methodology courses; examines technology as a tool to enhance teaching and learning second languages; highlights the importance of cross-cultural awareness in second language teaching. May be taken up to nine credit hours. Prerequisite: Consent of department. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Design needs analysis instruments to assess their students' needs and language proficiency levels, as well as learn about their interests.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between language functions and their lexico-grammatical realizations.
  3. Apply methodology and techniques learned in other TESOL courses to their teaching.
  4. Demonstrate how technology can enhance their teaching and their students' learning.
  5. Develop teaching materials that address their students' needs.
  6. Supplement and adapt quality commercially-available ESL textbooks to meet their students' needs.
  7. Critique their own teaching performance through the analysis of recordings of their classes.
