AAS 206 - Blues Appreciation in Culture

Through lecture, literature and documentary sources, a comprehensive analysis of this art form and its impact on American culture and society from the late 1800s to today. Fulfills: GE 8; LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the cultural,political,socioeconomic and geographical reasons behind the development of the Blues.
  2. Analyze at least one principle form of artistic expression in the Blues, and the creative process inherent therein.
  3. Explain the significance of this artistic expression in the past and/or the present.
  4. Analyze the influence of he Blues on modern music.
