SCI 304 - Plants and People

Historical and present-day relationships between plants and people. Major topics include: photosynthesis and the evolution of life; the Green Revolution; drugs and medicines obtained from plants; plant diseases and ecological relationships; plants providing food and beverages. Fulfills: GE 12; LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the reciprocal influence of plants on people and of people on the evolution and distribution of plants.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of plant structure and function as well as the evolutionary relationships of the main groups of plants.
  3. Analyze evidence that elucidates the domestication stories of crop plants.
  4. Express the importance of plants in their own lives through written communication.
