EXS 196 - Field Experience in Fitness Development I

Introductory practicum or field experience for students in the kinesiology: fitness development (FIT) major. Exposure to several experiences in the operation of a fitness facility with assistance in administering fitness assessments and participation in activities designed to introduce the operations of a fitness facility. (1 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Utilize heart rate monitors and Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) charts for monitoring intensity of exercise.
  2. Identify safe and proper usage of strength training and aerobic exercise equipment.
  3. Explain safe and effective flexibility training, including proper stretching techniques.
  4. Explain how to isolate major muscle groups.
  5. Demonstrate positive customer service skills.
