EST 100 - Introduction to Environmental Studies

Multidisciplinary study of the relationship of human beings to the natural world. Emphasis on the causes and consequences of human impacts on the local, regional and global environments and the ecological, socioeconomic and institutional perspectives that must interact to solve environmental problems. Fulfills: GE 3 and GE 12; LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the interrelationships between the physical, chemical and biological components of the natural environment.
  2. Describe how human activities affect the environment and human societies.
  3. Recognize the multidisciplinary nature of environmental studies and how solutions to environmental problems rely on information from the natural sciences and other disciplines.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding and application of environmental sustainability practices and decisions at a personal, local, societal and global levels.
